Past Time Rail's 'The Dorset Coast Express' Railtour from London Victoria to Swanage & return, featuring unrebuilt Battle of Britain 34067 "Tangmere" on the outward leg and WCR's 37706 on the return. Down on the Swanage Railway, fellow unrebuilt Battle of Britain 34070 "Manston" was in use as well as a class 108 + 117 DMU.

A few shots taken at Tunbridge Wells West during the Spa Valley Railway's 2009 Spring Diesel Gala. 37254, 73140 were in action, along with clas 12 No. 15224, 0-4-0 shunter Southerham and even Plasser & Theurer tamper No. 73250, which was making rare passenger runs while operating brakevan rides between Tunbridge Wells West and High Rocks.

A great gala held by the North Norfolk Railway commemerating 50 years since the closure of the Midland & Great Northern (M&GN) and celebrating 50 years of the M&GN Railway Society. Resident locos J15 65462, N7 69621 and WD 2-10-0 90775 were joined by visiting five visiting engines, BR Standard 2MT 78019 (from the Great Central Railway, Loughborough), BR Standard 4MT 76079 (courtesy of Ian Riley), B1 1306 "Mayflower" (from The Battlefield Line), 4F 44422 (from the Churnet Valley Railway) and Lancashire & Yorkshire class 27 1300 (from the East Lancashire Railway).

A visit to the Bluebell Railway for their annual Branch Line Weekend. The fleet of locos, consisting of U class No. 1638, C class No. 592, O1 class No. 65, A1X 'Terrier' No. 672, Dukedog class No. 9017 and Standard 4MT tank No. 80151, were joined by P class No. 753, which was visiting from the Kent & East Sussex Railway.

An excellent day aboard HDL's/The Remembrance Line Associasion's 'Christmas Onward Tour', using the superbly restored Hastings DEMU no. 1001, formed as a 5-car set for the day.

The tour originated at Hastings and picked up passengers at Battle, Etchingham, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and London Victoria. After leaving Victoria, the Green Thumper ran fast down to Folkestone Harbour via Maidstone East. At Folkestone Harbour, 1001 operated a shuttle trip up to Folkestone East Sidings and back, giving local enthusiasts and resdients a chance to ride on the unit. The return route to Hastings was the same as the outward.

For the tour, 1001 was formed as a 5-car train, made up of class 201 MSB 60116 "Mountfield" (from unit 1012), class 202 TS 60529 (from unit 1013), ex class 422 4-BIG Buffet 69337, class 201 TS no. 60501 (from unit 1001) and class 202 MSB no. 60118 "Tunbridge Wells" (from unit 1013).

A visit to the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley for their Midland Railway Works Open Day. The event was a commemoration of past open days at Derby Locomotive Works.

I took Past Time Rail's/UK Railtours' Open Day Railtour (which originated at Woking) from Finsbury Park in London to the MRC at Butterley via Peterborough, Loughborough and Toton on the outward leg. The return leg of the tour was routed via Nottingham, Grantham and Peterborough. EWS provided 67003/021 to work the train.

Steam locos in use during my visit were LMS Red 3F 16410, 7F 53809, Standard 4MT 80098, Standard 5MT 73129 and 9F 92214. Diesels in use during my visit were D2138 + 08590, 20189 and 31108. A couple of DMUs were also in use, one of which was giving rides to the public for the first time ever over the former Swanwick Colliery Branch. A wide range of locos/units were on display including classes 20, 25, 31, 33, 40, 44, 45, 46, 47, 50, 52 and even the sole surviving class 100 DMU.

The Cranmore 150 event was held to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the original East Somerset Railway. Aggregate Industries' Merehead depot/quarry was open to the public with a variety of locos on display including DB Red 60040, brand new FGBRf 'Bluebird' 66731 and almost all of the class 59 fleet. Demonstration freight trains were also in operation which saw 9F 92203 and USA S160 5197 handle stone trains of over 1000 tons. Fake USA tank no. 30075 handled services on the East Somerset Railway situated not far from Merehead Quarry.

Visited Long Marston, a storage site for many redundant rail vehicles in Warwichshire, via a special railtour from London Euston. The Past Time Rail premoted railtour departed Euston at 8.20am and was powered by 66081 and 66182. The outward route was via Slough, Reading, Cheltenham and Worcester where the train reversed to Honeybourne and Long Marston.

Long Marston is currently the home of over twenty class 86s and over twenty class 87s. The 87s are to see use in Bulgaria in the next few years. Several stored 08s, 20s, 37s, 47s and 56s are stored at Long Marston as well as 73201 and many wagons.

The return route was via Worcester, Bromsgrove, Birmingham New Street, Leamington Spa, Oxford, Reding and Slough and arrival into Euston was just before 9pm.

Here are some photos taken at Mangapps, a railway located near Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex. Mangapps has a variety of rolling stock including class 03s, a 47 and even vehicles to a 302 EMU.

An excellent diesel gala put on by the Swanage Railway in Dorset featuring visiting locos nos. 07007, 20096, 37275, 37906, 50044, 66724 and 73107 and home based locos nos. 08436, 33012 and 47635.

The Kent & East Sussex Railway's 'The Great K&ESR Gala Weekend' featured two vsiting egines, Small Prairie no. 5552 from the Bodmin & Wenford Railway and N7 0-6-2 no. 69621 from the North Norfolk Railway. Took a visit to the one mile long Essex based Colne Valley Railway situated in at Castle Headingham. Despite there being a line through the area in pre-preserved times there was never a station here although you'd be fooled when looking at the station buildings and platforms as they look so old. During my visit 0-4-0ST "Barrington" and visiting A1X 0-6-0T 662 "Martello" were in steam.

A brilliant tour organised by Past Time Rail Ltd taking ex SR Merchant Navy no. 35028 Clan Line over different routes from London Victoria to Salisbury and return.

The outward leg was routed via Longhedge Jn, Clapham Junction, Steatham, Wimbledon and the SWML as far as Worting Junction where the tour branched off taking the diesel only line under Battledown flyover, through Andover and onto Salisbury.

The return journey was routed via Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, The Portsmouth Direct Line from Havant to Guildford, Effingham Junction, the SWML from Surbiton to Wimbledon, Tulse Hill, Brixton and Factory Jn.
